Nato nel 1998 con l'obiettivo di favorire scambi sportivi con club delle nazioni che si affacciano sul Mar Adriatico (Albania, Slovenia, Grecia, Montenegro, Croazia), il torneo ha poi esteso la partecipazione ad altri Stati dell'Europa dell'Est e dei Balcani, rappresentando un appuntamento di rilievo per il panorama pallavolistico giovanile internazionale.
